The new IPCC Special Report on “Climate change and land” focuses on the impact of climate change on terrestrial ecosystems and on the role of ecosystems in climate change, and mitigation and adaptation solutions.

Interestingly, there is a chapter dedicated to food losses and the “lack of refrigeration” is mentioned as one of the causes of food loss. “Reduction of food loss and waste can lower GWG emissions…”

The IIR has been working on that topic for years and is preparing a new Informatory Note. Reducing food losses by creating a reliable cold chain is one of the best ways to improve food security while limiting the increase in greenhouse gas emissions.
