Fresh altitude
Occupants of airliner cabins will be breathing fresher air soon thanks to research being carried out in the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Experiments were carried out in a simulated section of aircraft constructed in a climate chamber over different time periods studying elements such as the optimum balance between fresh air and supply and humidity and the testing of different air purifier principles, as well as the study of thermal effects with cabin air temperature set at different levels. Thanks to the studies carried out on the air purification technique using gas-phase absorption (GPA), Boeing announced in a press release in June 2005 that the future 787 Dreamliner will include an air purification unit to remove gaseous contaminants, providing even cleaner air and a breath of fresh air!
