Increasing demand for technicians in the refrigeration sector
According to Chicago Tribune Media Services, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) is one of the fastest growing fields on the job market: employment of HVACR technicians is expected to grow by 28% by 2018 in the US, due to the departure of baby boomers from the workforce and the fact that the technology is advancing rapidly. Indeed, the trade is undergoing qualitative change as systems are more complex and require finer tuning and current emphasis on energy efficiency is driving technological changes.
Continuing classes and certification already address the challenges of this always changing trade, in which installation has become the smallest part of the job and increasing mathematical precision is required in achieving optimal efficiency in systems. According to an employer in the sector, three qualities are expected from potential employees: good diagnostic ability, willingness to get one’s hands dirty and flexibility with scheduling.
