The International Institute of Refrigeration is pleased to announce its role in a new European learning programme “REAL Alternatives” that will address skills shortages amongst technicians working in the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump sector.

The focus will be on carbon dioxide, ammonia, hydrocarbon and HFO refrigerants.  It will improve knowledge in the service and maintenance of these refrigerants in new systems from the point of view of safety, efficiency, reliability and containment.
The learning will be delivered through innovative blended learning - a mix of e-learning, face-to-face training materials, practical exercises, assessments and an e-library of learning resources - the programme will bring together industry knowledge and expertise from across Europe.

This two-year project will be led by seven partners from across Europe and is funded by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme and delivered in five languages.
The partners are: London South Bank University, UK; Limburg Catholic University College (KHLim), Belgium; Associazione Tecnici del Freddo (ATF), Italy; IKKE training centre Duisburg, Germany; Association of Refrigeration Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Contractors (AREA), Institute of Refrigeration, UK; and PROZON recycling programme, Poland.

Anyone interested in helping pilot the programme or who has learning materials they would like to contribute to our resource library should contact Miriam Rodway at the Institute of Refrigeration (miriam@ior.org.uk) or register at www.realalternatives.eu.
