L'Inde a fait appel à l'expertise néozélandaise pour le développement de l'entreposage frigorifique du pays, dans un contexte d'importantes pertes après récolte en raison d'infrastructures d'entreposage inadaptées.
Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Minister Sharad Pawar has recently said that the value of annual wastage of fruit and vegetables was estimated at € 1.6 billion. However, if the wastage value of rice, wheat, cereals and others are taken into account, it would reach up to € 5,2 billion a year.
As per estimates, there is a requirement of about 60 million tonnes of cold storage in the country against the present capacity of around 29 million tonnes.
