Largest American rooftop solar installation for cold store

The largest rooftop solar installation in North America (over 102 000 m²) on the roof of Gloucester Marine Terminal’s refrigerated warehouse is to be completed this autumn.
The USD 42 million project known as Riverside Renewable LLC will include 27 528 photovoltaic rooftop solar panels that will generate 9 megawatts of electricity, the equivalent of 80 % of the terminal’s power demand, i.e. enough to power around 1500 homes. The project is almost twice as large as any other rooftop solar installation in New Jersey and is expected to offset over 9500 tonnes CO2 emissions. It will rely in part on the availability of federal investment tax credits that supply tax incentives to spur the development of green energy sources systems nationwide, but also on the continued support of Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) created through the New Jersey Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) and that Riverside can sell. SunPower provides high-efficiency panels and its T5 Solar Roof system, the industry’s first non-penetrating rooftop product, combining a high-efficiency solar panel, frame and mounting system into a single compact unit.
