On September 16, 2014, the White House announced that Obama Administration had partnered with private sector on new commitments and executive actions to reduce emissions of HFCs.

The commitments made would reduce cumulative global consumption of HFCs by the equivalent of 700m metric tons of CO2 through 2025, equivalent to 1.5% of the world’s 2010 greenhouse gas emissions.

One of these commitments concerns the HVACR industry: AHRI member companies will commit to spending USD 5bn in new R&D and capital expenditures to develop and commercialize low-GWP technologies over the next 10 years, in addition to USD 2bn spent since 2009.
