Le Parlement Européen ratifie le projet de Règlement F-gaz

Le 12 mars dernier, le projet de révision du Règlement F-gaz a été ratifié à une écrasante majorité par le Parlement Européen (en anglais)
On March 12, 2014, an overwhelming majority ratified the revised draft on F-Gas Regulation during a plenary session of the European Parliament.

The draft legislation was passed by 644 votes to 19, with 16 abstentions.
The next step is a formal endorsement by the European Council on April 14, 2014.

A key part is the introduction of an HFC phase-down – a gradually declining “cap’ on bulk HFCs placed on the EU market expressed in CO2 equivalent – with a reduction target of 79% by 2030.

In addition to the phase-down, it  also includes a range of HFC bans in new equipment, notably in commercial refrigeration by 2022. Also, from 2020, HFCs with GWPs above 2500 will no longer be used to service and maintain refrigeration equipment.

The new regulation is expected to be published in the Official Journal of the EU in the summer of 2014, and enter into force in January 2015.
