Lightfoot Medal awarded to Dr Catarina Marques for her expertise in industrial refrigeration

Dr Catarina Marques, member of IIR Commission D1, won the Lightfoot Medal, awarded for the best IOR talk and paper of the previous year, along with co-author Dr Dermot Cotter for their paper “Energy Usage in the Industrial Refrigeration Sector: Food, Drink, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Refrigeration”.

Every year, the Kenneth Lightfoot Medal is awarded by the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) for the best talk or webinar given to IOR members during the previous year.

   

In February 2026, Dr Catarina Marques, currently a senior research fellow at London South Bank University, has been awarded the Lightfoot Medal, awarded for the best IOR talk and paper of the previous year, along with co-author Dr Dermot Cotter for their paper “Energy Usage in the Industrial Refrigeration Sector: Food, Drink, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Refrigeration”.

 

Dr Marques has authored several publications and contributes to the delivery of international and national collaborative projects. As a member of the IIR Working Group Careers in Refrigeration "CaRe", Dr Marques has contributed to the global survey on women working in RACHP. As a member of IIR Commission D1 “Refrigerated Storage”, she is one of the lead authors of the upcoming 5th edition of IIR Guide for Recommendations for Chilled Storage of Perishable Produce.
