LNG-fuelled ships
New ships will increasingly be fuelled by LNG, and Zeus Development Corporation is monitoring LNG-fuelled non-carrier vessels: there are currently 50 and the number is growing fast.
In 2015 and 2016, the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III standards will make it compulsory for ships to emit less sulphur and nitrogen oxide in a 200 nautical-mile radius around North America and Europe. Non-LNG-fuelled ships will need to implement scrubbers and after-exhaust treatment systems which are expensive and cumbersome.

This sector has grown remarkably fast since the first LNG-fuelled non-carrier vessel was built in 2000. Ferries and service vessels were among the first, and patrol vessels, tankers, tugs and barges will soon be LNG-fuelled.
