India is continuing its roll-out of food and drink processing hubs. Another Mega Food Park site is to be launched in Malipada in the state of Odisha.
The Odisha state government, with support from the national government, is to build a food processing centre that will employ 10 000 people. The hub is expected to be operational within 2 years and the aim is to establish Odisha as an international destination for the food processing industry. The project is expected to reduce crop wastage during handling and transportation, improve produce shelf life and create an efficient supply chain in the state.
The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, a body in charge of the food processing sector development in Odisha, is monitoring progress. Facilities are to include quick-frozen food units, vacuum-drying and packaging areas. Ten such food-processing hubs are to be built.
