Modern technology permits economical refrigerated shipments
The number of refrigerated shipments, and thus the number of refrigerated containers, has risen worldwide in recent years. Hamburg Süd is optimizing the use of cooling energy and will reduce the energy consumption of its reefer containers by 15% by 2015 – and this figure will reach 20% in the case of new containers.

The container’s share of temperature-controlled cargo transported by sea is now over 70% and will continue to grow.

This is made possible by efficient refrigeration units which work with output-controlled compressors and smart fan motors. The best efficiency at optimum temperature control is delivered by speed-controlled inverter compressors.
This differs from the conventional systems used up until now, which work with power dumping under part-load operation. They always produce 100% cooling power. Containers with inverter technology produce only the cooling power that is really required.
