New developments in cryogenic storage

An innovating solution for cryogenic storage of products has been patented and marketed. This system makes it possible to store products at -190°C in a totally dry environment without using liquid nitrogen in the storage space. The risks inherent in the use of liquid nitrogen, such as cross-contamination, liquid nitrogen leaks into the tubes and safety problems, are thus reduced because there is no direct contact between the liquid nitrogen and the products. This system, called "Custom Biogenic Isothermal", provides a constant homogeneous temperature around -190°C; this uniformity is obtained thanks to the use of an envelope filled with liquid nitrogen surrounding the storage area. Once the temperature is stabilized, variation in the liquid nitrogen level in this envelope does not influence the internal temperature, enabling long-term storage of the products.
