News from Downunder: James Harrison Museum Appeal

Known as the "father of modern refrigeration", Yorkshire-born James Harrison pioneered ice-making machines in Geelong, Australia, and developed technology used in the early days of meat exports from Australia. Funds are being sought in order to set up a museum commemorating James Harrison's achievements: James Harrison Museum Inc., PO Box 693, Belmont, Victoria 3216, Australia. The IIR is proud to be associated with this project and has named one of its prestigious Young Researchers Awards after James Harrison. Fittingly, Australian-based David Tanner won the first James Harrison Young Researchers Award (presented at the Washington DC Congress in 2003) for his work in the refrigerated transport and storage fields.
