Le plus important terminal de GNL d'Europe est actuellement en construction à Dunkerque.
Due to be delivered in 2015, a LNG terminal, being built in Dunkerque, France, aims at providing French, Belgian and British home with gas. According to Sylvain Rigot, President of Innocold (IIR benefactor member), it is the largest currently under construction in Europe and the second largest industrial construction site in France.
With costs estimated at € 1.2 billion, 65% were financed by EDF, 10% by Total and 25% by Fluxys. Three 190,000-m3 tanks at -163°C for the LNG make up the terminal which will handle 13 billion m3 of gas annually and with tankers unloaded in 36 hours.
The gas, arriving from Qatar and Algeria in liquefied form at -160°C, has a volume divided by 600. In order to heat the gas, 5-10% of warm water (10-25°C) rejected from Gravelines nuclear power station situated 5km away will be transported to the terminal.
