Out of the ordinary: Electrolux Bio Robot Refrigerator on biopolymer gel

Electrolux has finally unveiled its avant-garde Bio Robot Refrigerator concept within the context of its 2010 Electrolux Design Lab final. Designed by Yuriy Dmitriev, the refrigerator works on the principle of biopolymer, so there is no air that heats up whenever you open the door and no drawers are needed. The biopolymer gel keeps food items cool through luminescence. The non-sticky gel morphs around the foods and the strong surface tension of the gel creates a separate pod for each food item. The fridge has no doors and no motor, so 90% of the appliance is used to refrigerate food. No mixing of odours of foods takes place in this revolutionary appliance. The refrigerator can be placed horizontally, vertically or even on the ceiling, so adapts readily to all spaces. It is four times smaller than conventional fridges — it's the refrigerator of the future!
