EVIA and EPEE, a benefactor member of the International Institute of Refrigeration, recently published a paper outlining the needs of future generations towards the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC-R) sector. It focuses on the requirements of so-called "Generation Z", that is people born between the mid-1990s and early 2000s.

Here are some trends listed in The Visionary Paper. They concern consumer habits and consumption patterns by 2030, and they are the result of the EUREKA 2016 conference, where HVAC-R Industry representatives came together to discuss the future of the sector:
- Consumers will be looking for convenience and friendliness, buying a function rather than focusing on a particular product.
- They will want customised solutions to correspond exactly to their needs.
- They will just want to pay for a service when they need it, thanks to the Internet of Things.
- They will care about the environmental impact they have.
- They will prefer locally-sources products and may agree to pay a higher price for this.
