Traceability in Finland
The Finnish government has announced a clampdown on the traceability of fruit and vegetables. Finland's Plant Production Inspection Centre, National Food Agency, provincial governments and municipal food control authorities will work together to check compliance with enforcement of rules on fruit, vegetables and wild products. The campaign will focus on the compulsory information all operators in the food chain require in order to ensure traceability and is within the framework of regulation EC/178/2002 on the traceability of food and feed. The new "one up-one down system is designed to inform all players who have delivered a product to them or to whom they have delivered the product and focuses on product identification. Set up in 1979, the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) divided into "alerts" and ‘information" notifications enables national authorities to swap information on national measures regarding food safety and information exchanges are rising fast.
