Many local governments in China have strengthened their cold chain development plan recently, and refrigerated truck sales will rise to meet demand.

By 2015, the cold chain will be applied to vegetables, meat and seafood will be increased to 5%, 15% and 23% to 20%, 30% and 36% respectively. The refrigerated transport rate will increase from 15%, 30% and 40% to 30%, 50% and 65%, respectively for the same foodstuffs over the same period.

Currently, each year China produces over 56 million tons of meat, 8.5 million tons of frozen foods, and over 10 million tons of beverages, and 8 million tons of dairy products and 41.2 million tons of seafood. Whereas the cold chain is applied to all foods requiring refrigeration during transport, in China, the cold chain is applied to 15% of meat and 5% of fruit during distribution operations, and losses represent roughly 75 billion RMB per year. Refrigerated trucks account for just 0.3% of the total number of trucks, but China’s 12th Five-Year Plan will change this situation fast.
