The Engagement and Communication Specialist will drive the visibility and impact of the IIR’s Scientific and Technical Council (STC), bridging cutting-edge research with global stakeholders in refrigeration. This role combines science communication, digital outreach, and event promotion to amplify the IIR’s mission, with a strong focus on fostering engagement through conferences, publications, and stakeholder networks.

Job description
Key Responsibilities:
1/ Science Communication & Content Development:
- Translate complex technical research (e.g., from IIR commissions and working groups, journals) into compelling content for diverse audiences (articles, newsletters, social media, videos).
- Manage the IIR STC’s and working groups digital presence (website, LinkedIn, Twitter, newsletters) to highlight key findings, innovations, and policy recommendations.
- Organize scientific and technical webinars
- Manage the design and communication of IIR publications
2/ STC Engagement & Networking:
- Cultivate relationships with scientists, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to strengthen the IIR’s global network.
- Support STC member engagement, including onboarding experts and facilitating collaboration across commissions and working groups.
3/ Conference & Event Management:
- Lead communications for major IIR conferences, including and not limited to:
International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR) (flagship quadrennial event).
Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Refrigerants.
Cold Chain & Sustainability Conferences.
Phase-Change Materials (PCM) & Working Group Meetings.
- Develop promotional campaigns (press releases, speaker spotlights, social media teasers, keynote speakers) to boost participation.
- Coordinate with local event organizers on program dissemination, post-event reports, and evaluation and feedback analysis.
4/ Collaboration & Knowledge Dissemination:
- Work with the IIR editorial team to enhance the reach of the International Journal of Refrigeration.
- Partner with partner international organizations, and other agencies on joint initiatives tied to IIR events/research.
- Track engagement metrics and adapt strategies for maximum impact.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Science Communication, Journalism, Engineering, or related fields.
Experience
- 3+ years in science communication, public relations, or event marketing.
- Background in STEM (refrigeration, energy, or HVAC sectors a strong plus).
Skills
- Exceptional writing/editing (English essential; French or other languages advantageous).
- Proficiency in digital tools (CMS, Canva, LinkedIn/Google analytics, email platforms).
- Experience promoting scientific conferences or technical content.
