Résumé

Recent European Directives (EPBD recast, i.e. Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 2010/31/EU, and RES directive, i.e. Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources) focus on the renewable energy share in total energy consumption in buildings. In particular, the improved level of envelope insulation will decrease the consumption for heating purposes, thus increasing the share of energy consumption for domestic hot water (DHW) production in the assessment of total energy needs for building operation. Moreover, Directive 2010/31/EU sets the goal to build only nZEB buildings starting from 2021, so that all-purpose and small-scale renewable energy systems such as photovoltaic ones will definitively spread, thus favoring the application of HVAC systems fed by electrical energy, in particular heat pumps for DHW production and heating/cooling services. This paper deals with the main ways to improve the energy efficiency of HVAC systems based on heat pumps for DHW production and heating/cooling purposes, especially as regards the following issues: the use of water storages, the energy efficiency in DHW production during the heating season, and the matching of heating and DHW production in winter. These topics will be examined by simulations performed for various plant configurations and in case of two climates and heating consumption levels by a building energy simulation tool developed by the authors and intended at the flexible simulation of HVAC plants provided with tailored controls.
