Résumé

Twinbird developed and launched the world’s first consumer-level commercialized Stirling cycle refrigerator using the free-piston Stirling cooler (FPSC) into market in the year 2004. A Stirling cycle refrigerator is environmentally friendly and uses a small amount of helium (a ‘natural’ refrigerant) as the working medium. Now the FPSC is used in various applications where conventional compressor type refrigerators are not suitable. The company is enhancing its product lineup every year and challenging itselve to seek higher capacities and lower cooling temperature. One of their recent accomplishments is that they were awarded the Special Prize in the Third Monozukuri Nippon Grand Award held by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan in the year 2009. This prize was awarded for their challenging new technology and process, and the commercialization of their products based on this technology. Since the first commercialization of the FPSCs, the company has been supplying various refrigerators to companies in Japan and other countries and are collaborating technically with such companies. They are striving for the expansion of their lineup of various application products. In this article, they present their FPSC product lineup and discuss their applications.
