Résumé

The study explores how a general-purpose software tool for modelling thermo-fluid systems can be used to handle the physics of a domestic refrigerator. The analysis is based on one-dimensional fluid-dynamic equations for mass, momentum and energy, and a careful treatment of the heat-transfer mechanisms from fluid-to-wall and wall-to-ambient. A detailed description of the components in a domestic refrigerator (evaporator, condenser, compressor, capillary-tube with heat exchange, and suction line) is made within the framework of the software tool. Good agreement is found with experiments on an on/off compressor-controlled domestic refrigerator for the evaporator and condenser pressures as well as the cabinet temperature. In addition, simulated results for the mass flows and refrigerant distribution are discussed.
