Résumé

Ejector is one of the pressure recovery devices having the advantage of no moving parts and simpler construction. The ejector feasibility for a domestic refrigerator with cooling capacity in the range of 240 W has rarely been reported in the literature either theoretically or experimentally. The main objective of this study is to predict the change in the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of the sealed system of the domestic refrigerator with an ejector added in the suction side of the sealed system. In the current work, a mathematical model for the ejector has been developed and integrated with the system level model developed for the vapour compression cycle of a domestic refrigerator. The ejector model is based on one-dimensional mass, momentum and energy balance. Nozzle, mixing section and diffuser are modelled separately. Entrainment ratio at the nozzle exit is iterated based on vapour quality of the resultant stream. A compressor model based on pressure ratio and vapour compression cycle state points is incorporated to predict EER. The developed model is used to optimize area ratio for maximum EER improvement for the given domestic refrigerator application. The results from the model shows that approximately 5% of EER improvement is possible in a domestic refrigerator with an ejector having nozzle efficiency more than 60% and diffuser efficiency more than 85%.
