Résumé

Pipe-embedded double-skin façades (PDSFs) could release the overheating problem in conventional double-skin façades (DSFs). The characteristic of heat absorbed by pipes, which is related with the additional energy consumption of PDSF, is not clearly investigated. In this study, three indexes, convective heat transfer coefficient, equivalent temperature and fraction of solar heat
absorbed by pipes, are proposed to reflect heat absorbed by pipes. The characteristic of PDSF with different external and internal glazing are compared. The results show that: 1) the heat absorbed by pipes is classified into convective and solar heat; 2) the convective heat transfer coefficient is dependent on the thickness of both external and internal glazing. The fraction of solar heat absorbed by pipes is mainly dependent on the external glazing and 3) when the total thickness of external and internal glazing is fixed, it is better to apply better insulated glazing to the external.
