Résumé

This paper presents an exergy analysis of an advanced water to water heat pump that has a novel rotary compressor-expander to achieve higher exergy efficiency and heating capacity. The main exergy source in a vapour compression refrigeration cycle is electricity which enters into the system and is converted to mechanical power via the compressor. In a typical refrigeration cycle, the expansion process is performed by an expansion valve which reduces the refrigerant pressure from condensing pressure to evaporating pressure without extracting work from this process. Considering the pressure and temperature differences of the refrigerant at the condenser outlet and heat reservoir (outdoor ambient), the refrigerant has high exergy potential at this stage which is lost completely through the expansion process. It is believed that by applying this novel compressor-expander some work can be extracted from the expansion process and a higher exergetic efficiency achieved.
