Analyse numérique d'un régénérateur magnétique actif alternatif. II. Analyse de la performance.

Numerical analysis of a reciprocative active magnetic regenerator. II. Performance analysis.

Résumé

The numerical model presented in Part I (see this Bulletin, reference 2009-1587) is used to evaluate the influence of mass flow rate and regenerator channel size on the behaviour of the cooling capacity. The volume of fluid displaced through the regenerator channels during the isofield processes has a significant influence on the performance of the Brayton-based reciprocative magnetic refrigerator. For a given cycle frequency, the cycle averaged cooling capacity reaches a maximum when a given fraction of the total fluid volume is displaced inside the AMR. This behaviour was quantified at a specific condition (frequency of 1.0 Hz, magnetic induction of 2.5 T and a total mass of Gd of 228 g) in which the maximum cycle averaged capacity has been observed for a pumped volume equal to 61.6% of the AMR total fluid volume.
