Analyse systématique de la stabilité de l'acétate de sodium trihydraté en tant que matériau à changement de phase pendant les cycles thermiques.

Systematic analysis of the stability of Sodium Acetate Trihydrate as Phase Change Material during thermal cycling.

Résumé

Phase Change Materials (PCMs), employed in Latent Thermal Energy Storages (LTES), can represent an important solution to ensure a reliable energy stock. Salt hydrates are inorganic materials, and they present many advantages, e.g., high energy storage density and low cost, as well as a few drawbacks, e.g. supercooling and phase separation, the latter being the main limiting factor. This study is performed on Sodium Acetate Trihydrate (SAT) which melts at around 58 °C, suitable for domestic hot water. The present preliminary work aims at evaluating the thermal behaviour of the material along different melting and solidification cycles. 5 samples were prepared and cycled in two thermostatic baths (40°C and 80°C) for 120 times. 3 of these 5 sample contained SAT and a nucleating agent. The addition of DSP or NaCl resulted in a reduced supercooling and a better stability of the material.
