Enhancement of combined heat and mass transfer in rotary exchangers with novel material combinations.

Résumé

The principal objective of the study is the analysis and improvement of the combined heat and mass transfer of various newly designed rotary solid storage elements. Rotary exchangers usually consist of a combination of a carrying material and an adsorbing storage element. The heat and mass transfer surface is of cellular structure usually referred to as matrix. Using holographic interferometry experiments were conducted in order to determine the most effective duct geometry for advanced heat and mass transfer. In order to improve the heat and mass transfer in rotary exchangers several new combinations of carrying materials and adsorbents were developed and compared to a reference material. Ten combinations which proved to be most effective were scrutinized.
