Résumé

The EU 31/2010 Directive which introduces the concept of "nearly zero-energy buildings", accounts for dramatic reductions of the energy consumption in the building and housing sector. ACXT (IDOM Architecture Department) experience has converged in the construction of its two main headquarters in Bilbao and Madrid. Both buildings are characterized by the implementation of Low-Ex systems, which combine high IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) performance with efficiency and comfort. The IDOM Bilbao building has rehabilitated an old port warehouse, preserving its heavy structure, which provides a huge thermal inertia. The high performance façades and the green roof provide the insulation needed in this type of buildings. The central areas are conditioned by passive chilled beams by means of natural convection with low air velocity. IDOM Madrid headquarters building presents a thermal activated structure (TABS) as the main part of the HVAC system. The Energy accumulated in the structure allows de-coupling the energy demand and its production (8-10 hours difference) using a night cycle free-cooling. Additionally, engineers have also chosen good shape factor and selective shading to minimize sunlight loads. Both buildings are being monitored and the results will be presented in this paper.
