Résumé

Spray cooling in a closed loop was tested. Eight miniature nozzles in a multi-nozzle plate were used to generate a spray array targeting a 1 x 2 cm² cooling surface. Methanol and water were used as the working fluids. Thermal performance data for multi-nozzle spray cooling in the confined, closed system were obtained at various operating temperatures, nozzle pressure drops and heat fluxes. It was shown that the spray cooler can reach critical heat fluxes of up to 90 W/cm² with fluorocarbon fluids and 490 W/cm² with methanol. For water, the critical heat flux is above 500 W/cm². Air purposely introduced in the spray cooling system fluid has a significant influence on the heat transfer characteristics of the spray over the cooling surface.
