Résumé

The paper presents the performance of a combined radiant floor and forced-air heating system with a direct-expansion ground-source heat pump (DX-GSHP), developed for, and tested in a conventional (northern climate) greenhouse. The prototype includes a heat pump with three 5-ton scroll compressors, desuperheating and electric back-up coils, a horizontal ground-source heat exchanger buried to a depth of 90 cm (3 ft), and a radiant heating floor. The control strategy developed allowed for the variation in thermal capacity according to the actual heating demand, and thus the obtaining of appropriate operating parameters. The expectation was to reduce by up to 30% the annual heating energy costs compared with a baseline greenhouse, and to provide normal indoor conditions for efficient agricultural production.
