Résumé

In previous studies, input work was directly measured in an attempt to determine AMR efficiency however the parasitic losses in drive components and thermal heat leaks made the magnetic work insignificant relative to the total input and the net cooling power. The PM II test apparatus was modified to measure heat rejection from the AMR using peltier heat flux sensors. Combined with knowledge of applied loads, pumping power and heat leaks, heat rejection can be used to determine the AMR energy balance and magnetic work input. Conduction in the heat exchanger assembly was modeled to increase the accuracy of the heat rejection. It was found that the accuracy of the measurement increases asymptotically with heat rejection. The model predicts that after insulating the fluid between the regenerator and hot heat exchanger, heat rejection measurements exceeding 10 Watts can be measured with over 95% accuracy. Combined with viscous dissipation measurements in the AMR, a highly accurate magnetic work measurement can be obtained.
