AIRS cryocooler system design and development.

Résumé

The technical foundation of the instrument is a cryogenically cooled infrared spectrometer that uses a pair of TRW pulse tube cryocoolers operating at 55 K, as well as cryoradiators at 150 and 190 K. The paper describes the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument cryogenic design and development effort and the lessons learned to date with respect to the selection, design and integration of cryocoolers into this demanding instrument.
