Conception préliminaire d'un refroidisseur à adsorption résidentiel à faible température de régénération.

Preliminary design of a low regeneration temperature residential adsorption chiller.

Résumé

This paper details the initial design process for a prototype water/zeolite adsorption chiller in a way that could be adopted by others designing an adsorption chiller. The chiller (of nominal 3 kW cooling capacity) is to be integrated with a gas engine (which supplies hot water at 65-70°C) for a residential trigeneration system. The adsorber heat exchangers are tube and plain fin type, coated with low regeneration temperature zeolite FAM-Z01 (Kakiuchi et al. 2004). The design process includes the construction and use of an equilibrium adsorption model (based on an empirical adsorbent state equation provided by the manufacturer) to size the adsorbers. The model is also used to explore the sensitivity of coefficient of performance (COP) and specific cooling power to the chilled water, heat rejection, and heat source temperatures. With an estimate of the system COP, a sizing procedure for the condenser is described. Finally, the model is used to quantify the dependence of performance on the vapour transfer tube diameter.
