Résumé

Window air conditioners can be fire prone which can lead to major disasters if left undetected and unattended. A prototype window air conditioner with less fire hazard has been already assembled and is being tried in the author's research centre (India). Fire prone component of window air conditioners are running capacitor, starting capacitor, relay, thermostat and all other points of loose contact in wiring. To eliminate this possible risk, the authors have made some basic changes in the unit. The relay, running capacitor, starting capacitor, selector switch, fan motor capacitor, thermostat, etc. are fitted in a compact m.s. box and kept outside the window air conditioner with required special type of wiring to connect the components with the unit.
