Second law analysis of the open cycles for solid desiccant air conditioners.

Résumé

A thermodynamic analysis (first and second laws) of rotary desiccant units for air conditioning and ventilation is developed. It emphasises the open character of the cycle, especially the consumption of liquid water. This analysis shows that not only the different components of the unit but also the exchanges between the unit and the environment must be considered, otherwise the difference between the Carnot COP and the cycle COP cannot be completely explained. Moreover, after transformation into dimensionless entropy productions, the various irreversible parameters can be compared.
