Heating, piping and air conditioning systems aboard ships are considerably different than ones and land-based facilities. Because the equipment is more specialized, maintenance personel must have a broader range of expertise. Furthermore, the wholesalers for heating, electric, plumbing, and other supplies are not just down the street. Life on the water is not the same as on shore.
