Résumé

The laminar flow and heat transfer behaviors of conventional working fluids in the twisted minichannel (TMC) are studied using a 3-D numerical scheme. The main goal of the present work is to investigate the effects of the cross section shape with different twist pitch to channel length ratios. Test results indicate that the performance of the TMC is strongly related to the shape of cross section. All the tested TMCs have higher heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop than the smooth circular minichannel. It is found that the TMC with the half circular cross section has the highest values of the considered PEC for air flow, while for liquid working fluids the highest values are obtained for the TMC with the square cross section. A smaller twist pitch in the TMCs leads to higher values of the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. Likewise, based on the PEC, the performance of the TMCs improves with the decrease of the P/L ratio. At the studied ranges, the highest value of the PEC of 1.47 is obtained for the air flow inside the TMC with the elliptic cross section and P/L?=?0.25 at Reynolds number of 1500.
