Résumé

As one can easily imagine, the challenges of putting any instrument in space are considerable, when even minor glitches in the launch vehicle or attitude control system can result in a lost mission. Cryogenic instruments, especially those using stored cryogens, are even more challenged, since problems that cause excessive heat loads (even if temporary) have resulted in a total loss of instrument function.
