Résumé

The use of ground coupled heat pumps/air conditioning (HP/AC) units integrated with photovoltaics can be a viable solution for the climatization of residential buildings. The use of suitable thermal storage systems can shift peak loads while mitigating the unavoidable drawbacks of intermittent PV electricity production. A HP/AC unit with 5 kW nominal cooling capacity was designed and optimized using the ground as the heat source/sink. The unit is equipped with variable speed rotary compressor and brazed plate heat exchangers. The unit is experimentally analysed during summer operations when connected to a cold storage filled with a bio-based PCM (melting temperature 9°C). The water flowing in the condenser is kept at working conditions typical of ground connected heat exchangers. The performance of the integrated system are experimentally compared and analysed. The proposed results can contribute to optimize the design of the whole system, to enable energy savings while promoting the integration of renewable energy.
