Résumé

To meet with the requirement of liquefaction and recondensation of xenon gas in a liquid xenon calorimeter, a pulse-tube refrigerator was designed, built and tested. At first, the co-axial type pulse tube refrigerator with a regenerator inside configuration was developed for geometrical restriction. It has a cooling power of 70 W at 165 K using a 2.2 kW compressor. In order to compare the cooling performance of the refrigerator, an U-type pulse tube refrigerator was also built. It was designed using the concept of the same volume in the pulse tube and the regenerator. Preliminary testing indicated the cooling power of 52 W at 165 K using a 1.6 kW compressor and the COP obtained was similar to that of the co-axial refrigerator. The paper gives a detailed comparison of both refrigerators.
