Résumé

The present paper presents a simple methodology to estimate the thermal load in a vehicle’s cabin under variable ambient conditions, including possible shadings of the surroundings and the orientation of the vehicle. The model is based on a lumped parameter approach and, using a simplified method derived from the heat balance method (HBM), it helps to accurately obtain the thermal load encountered in the passengers’ compartment of vehicles. Given the thermal and geometrical parameters of the cabin, the net overall thermal load can be calculated for each time step considering the ambient conditions, internal loads and air changes. The validation of the model has been done with experimental data under variable environmental conditions obtaining an RMSE of 1.07K. The developed model accurately reproduces the measured cabin temperature and it can help to design and optimize the air-conditioning system of a vehicle and to study its impact on the overall performance, fuel consumption and emissions of the vehicle.
