Dispersions à changement de phase pour des applications de refroidissement isotherme.

Phase change dispersions for isothermal cooling applications.

Résumé

This work presents the development, characterisation and the application of a Phase Change Dispersion as a heat transfer fluid. The phase change dispersion contains CrodaTherm 24 droplets dispersed within water, which changes from solid to liquid whilst absorbing heat at a constant temperature and changes from liquid to solid whilst releasing heat. Firstly, this paper presents the thermophysical properties of the phase change dispersion, which melts around 22°C, from the developmental process in the laboratory such as particle size distribution, thermal stability, thermal profiles and dynamic viscosities. After this developmental process, an experimental test-rig was built to test the application of using the formulated phase change dispersion as a cooling fluid by exploiting the latent heat of phase change of the particles within the phase change dispersion. The premise of the developed test-rig is to allow the phase change dispersion to change continuously from suspension to emulsion in an electrically heated pipe and back to suspension by flowing through a water recooled plate heat exchanger system. From the test-rig, the phase change dispersion showed a constant apparent specific heat capacity of between 13-15 kJ kg-1 K-1 for a total of 72 hours continuous cycling, and managed to keep a temperature difference between inlet and outlet of 1 K.
