Résumé

The French Refrigeration Association (AFF) is carrying out an ambitious energy saving programme called CLIM'ECO, which is dedicated to saving energy and reducing greenhouse gases from air conditioning systems used in the French overseas departments. This publication reviews the work carried out by the association's members to assess the impact of good practices and eco-gestures on energy consumption, an under-exploited savings potential, and the approach adopted to disseminate eco-gestures to the public.
Although the potential energy savings that can be achieved by applying daily eco-actions can reach up to 20% for a household, the difficulty of such a programme lies in raising users' awareness so that they adopt these eco-gestures in everyday life. The programme has therefore developed, beyond the theoretical analysis of the savings that can be made through the efficient use of air conditioning, an information infrastructure, and actions to train and raise awareness among users. The assessment of the actions carried out since March 2020 on the populations of four French islands: Mayotte, Reunion, Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guyana will be presented, thus making it possible to qualify the overall savings generated by this programme in the territories concerned and its contribution to limiting greenhouse gas emissions. In order to measure the energy savings achieved, a working group comprising AFF experts has developed an evaluation software enabling calculation of the heat balance in a given context. Using practical cases, the working group has calculated the energy savings achieved by applying good maintenance practice and recommended and environmentally friendly approaches.
