Résumé

The surface tension of refrigerant is one of the most important properties that govern the heat transfer in boiling and condensation processes. The present paper reports measurements on how a PAG oil changes the surface tension of R134a. The surface tension of R134a-PAG oil system was measured with the ring method. Measurements were conducted for a temperature of 278.15 K and relatively low oil-concentrations up to 32 mass% while the refrigerant containing the oil was kept at saturated conditions. The overall uncertainty in surface tension was estimated to be less than about ±5%. The present results demonstrate that the PAG oil mixed into R134a once decreases the surface tension by about 10% to that of R134a at lower oil concentrations up to 16% and increases it again at larger oil concentrations.
