Emulsions de paraffine à changement de phase à basse température.

Low temperature paraffin phase change emulsions.

Résumé

The experimental results show that the emulsions have a high energy density and little subcooling. They are stable both over a long-term storage period and under thermal-mechanical loads, although some changes in the droplet size distribution and in the phase change temperature were observed after the designed freezing/melting cycles in a pumped test rig. However, the emulsions have a wide phase change temperature range due to the used paraffin blends. Beneficial paraffins with a sharp phase transition temperature range and a high latent heat capacity should be developed. In addition, the emulsions have a higher viscosity than water which will cause a higher pressure drop in practical applications. The samples presented in the paper were prepared with a thickener to reduce creaming. Since creaming does not result in a growth in the droplet size, the thickener is not necessary when the emulsions are applied in pump systems and thus the viscosity is reduced.
