Résumé

Latent heat thermal energy storage tanks have been developed. A feature of the tanks is utilisation of heat transfer enhancement with high-thermal conductive carbon fibres. The tanks are placed in an air-conditioning system in a building. The thermal charge and discharge characteristics of the tanks were investigated. As a result, the thermal energy released from the tanks over an 8-hour period reached a level of almost 40 kW. The release ratio can be improved when the appropriate amount of the thermal energy storage material is packed in the tanks, resulting in the achieving of the design objective of the tanks. It is preferable for the heat transfer fluid to flow from the bottom to the top of the tanks in order to effectively use the natural convection heat transfer.
