Résumé

The article synthesizes available information on the link between indoor environment and health and productivity to produce estimates of the total productivity gains that might result from better indoor environments. For the US the article estimates potential annual savings and productivity gains from reduced respiratory disease, allergies and asthma, sick building syndrome symptoms and from direct improvements in worker performance unrelated to health. The authors estimate the potential financial benefits of improving indoor environments exceed costs by a factor of 18 to 47. Policy implications are discussed.
