Résumé

When operating a cryogenic refrigeration system, ambient humidity can act as a factor that reduces its efficiency. Consequently, there is growing interest in adsorption-based dehumidification systems that can rigorously control moisture levels around cryogenic refrigeration units. This study presents a comprehensive performance analysis of a desiccant-based dehumidification system (SDBD-system), emphasizing desiccant selection and application on a heat exchanger under moderately humid conditions, representative of South Korean summer climates. The water uptake capacities of three different solid desiccants were assessed to identify the most suitable desiccant for the desiccant-based dehumidification system under specific operating conditions. Among the desiccants examined, aluminum fumarate-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) demonstrated the highest water uptake capacity, approximately 3.98 g/g, and were selected as the optimal desiccant. These MOFs were applied to the metallic heat exchanger surface using a recently developed coating technique. Results show that increasing coating thickness and operating time led to dehumidification performance improvements of 113% and 126%, respectively, on average. Notably, reducing space velocity with a shorter-height desiccant-coated heat exchanger (DCHE) yielded an average dehumidification performance improvement exceeding 160%.
